Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers improve the appearance of facial features by adding volume and reducing wrinkles and fine lines. There are two primary categories of Dermal fillers: Hyaluronic Acid (HA) and Biostimulatory, each having specific benefits based on patient needs.

Hyaluronic Dermal Fillers
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring carbohydrate molecule ubiquitously present in the human body in areas such as the epidermis, facial tissues, cartilage, muscle, connective tissues and other areas. Given the viscous nature of HA, modified versions of HA are ideal for cosmetic applications to replace volume and structure loss by restoring volume and smoothness. As we age, we not only lose facial bone density, our upper superficial and middle fat compartments decrease while our lower facial fat compartments increase. In addition, collagen and elastin production slows. Dermal fillers help replace projections and smooths transitions that are impacted by these losses. Fillers are also very helpful to improve fine lines, wrinkles as well as enhance lips. Examples of FDA approved Hyaluronic based filler products include Restylane®, Juvederm®, and RHA®
Biostimulatory Dermal Fillers
Biostimulatory fillers are a type of dermal filler which works by stimulating the body’s own collagen production. Over time, this helps improve volume, skin texture, and tone. Two primary biostimulatory fillers are Sculptra® (PLLA), and Radiesse® (CaHA).
Sculptra® contains biodegradable and biocompatible microparticles of Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) which stimulates collagen to help restore the skin’s foundation and improve texture and tone.
Radiesse® uses Calcium Hydroxyapatite (CaHA) to improve skin texture and tone by stimulating collagen production.
